I'm really glad you guys kept this aspect to the game alive! It looks promising, assuming of course that there will be a much wider variety as in earlier games. Make sure the most valuable ones (teachers, bankers) are the hardest to find!

Definitely agree with Narupley, please make sure that especially valuable characters (that applies to items, secret areas as well) are only available if you follow certain quest lines or visit certain areas at a very specific time etc.

Hey, maybe it'd be a great idea if one of those characters was a traitor, leading to an ambush scenario and ultimately an "escape" quest? Or if he robbed the party during nighttime, triggering an optional quest forcing you to track him down?

The more depth and surprises, the better! :)

I never used hirelings in past Might & Magics, but I think I'll give it a try this time around. I really like the mule idea, because I pickup everything I find to sell later. Even useless things like plates and cups. Also, if possible, trained animals like mice or birds that can slip through tiny holes or fly across pits to press buttons and such would be cool too.

Cool! So realistic hirelings! The Mule is really awesome. Thank you for this interesting features.

By the way, will there be Alchemy in the game?

I love hirelings. I just also want to point out that in the old games hirelings could also help you make parties which were otherwise very difficult to play. For example, the gatemaster and scholar weren't the most ideal followers for a balanced party, but allowed you to play without a sorcerer or druid without being too terribly inconvienced.

Do we have to pay the Mule? can't we feed it carrots?
I think it'll taste better.

Some hirelings skills not found in previous games now added in are quite beneficial for the party, like the Mule as the example given is indeed splending.
If Might & Magic X Legacy does have the map travelling days (e.g it takes 3 days to reach another part of the map), and having a hireling to reduce the travelling by 1 day, that would be awesome!
I think there should be a balance of combat type of hirelings and non-combat type.
E.g. Combat type: increase Strength, Accuracy, Endurance by 5 per level; increase Swords skill by 2 level OR increase mastery level of Leather armor from Basic to Expert (assuming that characters with Leatherarmor skill is at Basic level)
Non-combat: reduce travelling days, resting is faster, reduce used food (Chef), increase level of identifying items by 1 point, etc.

Hi all, Thank you guys for your comments and questions! Here are some answers :)

__________________________________________________________________

["If Might & Magic X Legacy does have the map travelling days..."] → Yes, there will be different ways of traveling available (such as Griffins, a horse-drawn Carriage etc.). However up until now, there is no hireling planned to reduce such costs.

__________________________________________________________________

["By the way, will there be Alchemy in the game?"] → Right now there is no Alchemy planned.

__________________________________________________________________

["Teleport and fly!!!"] → We currently plan for a spell called "Spirit Beacon" which enables you to set certain points on the map you can "teleport" to.

[“I just also want to point out that in the old games hirelings could also help you make parties which were otherwise very difficult to play.”] → True, I guess some Hirelings will help you within MMX, too. I.e. if you choose a Hireling who gives you all kind of buffs ones a day, it'll help your party if you created one without a Sorcerer. The same applies to the Body Guard who might be helpful if you have a party that only consists out of Sorcerers.

[“Do we have to pay the Mule? can't we feed it carrots? I think it'll taste better.”] → Hrhr :)

Amazing, this will add a little extra to the game.Very exciting. I'm looking forward to two parts of this feature, firstly finding the most interesting and unique hirelings. Secondly challenging myself through a slight handicap by not using them at all for a run through of the game.

It would be nice, if hirelings that you have just say something like this "I'll wait you in tavern", when you get hirelings from quests, so you would not need to find them again. Or you can do something similar to this...

Using the four examples given to us, here's a break down of every possible combination. I also included what I think the effects will be for that respective hireling combination. Let's see how good my guesses are and *please* let me know what you think! ^_^

Hireling Combo #01: Scout // Scout
Hireling Benefit: reveals twice the amount of info on enemies (maybe complete stats and everything?) // reduces their aggro range twice // increases exploration range twice

Hireling Combo #02: Scout // Victualer
Hireling Benefit: reveals partial info on enemies // reduces enemy aggro range // increases exploration range // allows party to rest once a day for free

Hireling Combo #03: Scout // Mule
Hireling Benefit: reveals partial info on enemies // reduces enemy aggro range // increases exploration range // adds another tab to the party inventory

Hireling Combo #04: Scout // Chef
Hireling Benefit: reveals partial info on enemies // reduces enemy aggro range // increases exploration range // receive the "Well Rested" buff after properly resting

Hireling Combo #05: Victualer // Victualer
Hireling Benefit: allows the party to rest twice a day for free

Hireling Combo #06: Victualer // Mule
Hireling Benefit: allows the party to rest once a day for free // adds another tab to the party inventory

Hireling Combo #07: Victualer // Chef
Hireling Benefit: allows the party to rest once a day for free // receive the "Well Rested" buff after properly resting

Hireling Combo #08: Mule // Mule
Hireling Benefit: adds two tabs to the party inventory

Hireling Combo #09: Mule // Chef
Hireling Benefit: adds another tab to the party inventory // receive the "Well Rested" buff after properly resting

Hireling Combo #10: Chef // Chef
Hireling Benefit: receive a stronger "Well Rested" buff (2x bonus effect) after properly resting

So yeah, using just the information that was provided to use from the developers, here's my take on how the hirelings could affect the party. Happy gaming!

Please let there be Dragon for hire XD, I really liked it in MM6, when I had one as part of party!

To Le-Larissa: Bad news about the alchemy T_T, it was important aspect of games, especially against tougher enemies with party on lower levels - and since MM7 it was really, really useful. In MM6 not so much, because mana/health potion always got you only 10 points.
If at least healer NPC would be available - that would be really useful.

I used the hirelings in the old MM's to stack valuable weapons armor etcetera on when the rest of my party had their bags full then fire them with all expensive stuff stacked on them and hire them back when you need to sell the items...
